Get some car comforts from OSPS

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Autumn is officially here and depending on who you are this could mean a whole list of things. Maybe it means its time to go shopping for a new winter wardrobe, or it could mean you’ve just sent your kids off to university; but no matter who you are it will inevitably mean that we all have to say goodbye to the hot weather and those long summer nights. It also means that the roads are going to start getting icy and visibility is going to be poorer.

With this in mind we can’t help but take on the worried motherly role and remind you to ‘drive safe’. But hey at OSPS we have always thought safety is paramount especially when it comes to you; our customers. This is why we are offering you some great in car accessories, not only to help you pimp out your ride in style but also to keep you safer throughout the winter months.

Starting with the Carphone Warehouse built in car charger with seven tips. This handy piece of equipment not only keeps your phone charged whilst you’re on the go but also adapts to charge up to seven different phone types which is always handy if any passengers with different phones need to take advantage. Stay charged, stay connected and stay safe with the Carphone Warehouse built in car charger with seven tips.

Next in our line up is the Parrot MKi9200. This is a complete in car system to keep you connected, entertained and of course safe. A wireless remote attaches to your dashboard or it can even attach to your steering wheel, now you can keep everything close and in control. Use the remote to cycle through contacts, change tracks on the built in music player or start and end calls.

The Parrot MKi9200 also becomes your in car auditorium and can play all your songs by either syncing with your iPod, MP3 or USB. As well as pumping out your favourite tunes the car speakers also make listening to phone calls crystal clear.

There’s no need to worry about the person on the other end hearing you either; with dual microphones your voice is enhanced and background noise is seamlessly filtered out. This is a feature that can be brought into play again when using it for voice recognition.  Now you can find your contacts even quicker and call them with ease all without taking your hands off the wheel. In car entertainment is now made easy with the Parrot MKi9200.

And Last by no means least we have the Parrot MKi900 in car kit which is only made for iPod and iPhones. It offers similar advantages to the Parrot Mki9200 such as voice recognition and music capabilities; it even has the sophisticated dual microphones. However the Mki900 is absent of a screen to help you see what you’re doing, but don’t worry; the Mki900 uses a sophisticated voice menu to help you navigate and select what you want. This is brilliant as now there is no need to take your hands off the wheel or even look away from the road. Safety and sophistication is achieved with the MKi900.

Both these fantastic Parrot products will be available very soon on the OSPS site. This however isn’t all we will be able to offer you. Seeing as these are two truly unique pieces of car kit we don’t want you to spend hours trying to figure out how to install them yourselves. Instead we will be offering a complete installation service by our in car solution engineers. Keep your eyes peeled on the accessories page and blog for updates on these great products and brilliant new service.

If however you can’t wait until then and want to see what else we have on offer then feel free to check out any of our other in car accessories available now at OSPS.

Three phones you’re going to want to keep your eye on at OSPS

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Our coming soon page is currently brimming with mobile talent and has a host of different phones to suit every taste and every price bracket.

To help make life a little easier we thought we would tell you our top three to give you a little helping hand.

Our first one of note is the highly impressive Nokia C7-00 mobile phone:

The Nokia C7-00’s hardware features give it credentials worthy enough to put it up with even some of the biggest players of the smartphone world and what’s more it comes supporting the new Symbian^3 software. This means you get more than 250 new features that you have never seen from Nokia before, the ones we feel worthy of mention are multi-touch, improved graphics, better multitasking and location aware services.

However the main selling point of the Nokia C7-00 is that it is a social networkers dream and comes with a completely integrated social networking feature. You can now get live updates from Facebook and Twitter directly to your home screen; you can even post a status update and send it out over multiple channels at the same time. Safe to say the Nokia C7-00 is our mobile of choice to keep connected and up to date. Come and see it for yourself.

Next in the line up is the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 is a BlackBerry with a difference. The Torch 9800 is a slider phone and incorporates touch and type to give you the best of both worlds. The iconic QWERTY keyboard that  is one of BlackBerry’s most famous features still exists but is now covered by a 3.2 inch touchscreen.

As with the Nokia C7-00 the BlackBerry Torch 9800 comes running a new operating system ‘BlackBerry OS6’. This updated software will mean integrated social networking and tabbed web browsing with faster web searching amongst a list of other exciting new additions. Come and see exactly what the BlackBerry Torch has in store for you.

The third and final phone in our list is the Alcatel OT-209:

This phone is at the complete other end of the mobile phone spectrum as the Alcatel OT-209 is back to the basics of no nonsense text and talk. Completely affordable and adorable the Alcatel OT-209 can be yours without having to break the bank.

The Alcatel Ot-209 can act as a back up for nights out and festivals; it can even just be there for emergencies when you need something to fall back and rely on. To see simplicity at it’s best come and have a look at the Alcatel OT-209.

So there you have it, three of our favourite phones coming soon to One Stop Phone Shop. To see what other exciting new additions we have come and check out our coming soon page now.

Windows phone 7, tiles over style?

Friday, September 24th, 2010

The sleeping giant is starting to stir as Microsoft gear up for an October release of their new windows operating system Windows phone 7.

For a while now it seems everyone has been crying out for Microsoft to truly push the boat out and give us something we’ve never seen before. Well they must have been listening because that is exactly what they’ve done. Chief operating officer of Microsoft Kevin turner has said ‘when you look at this phone and see some of the UI, it is not like any phone you have seen from Microsoft.’

So why is it so different? Well I have one word for you, tiles (and no Windows phone 7 isn’t made from a piece of slate from your roof).  What I mean is the new OS is completely centralised around virtual tiles (boxes) within the home screen. There is now a tile for your organiser which will update itself automatically to show you any meetings or appointments coming up. There is a tile for yourself , a tile for your Facebook,  a tile for your email and even a tile for your favourite contact. So you start to get the picture.

I can already hear many of you saying, so what, a tile just sounds like a glorified app and in a way I would agree with you. However tiles update automatically and push content straight towards you. Now you don’t have to delve in to apps and route around for your nuggets of information, with tiles these streams are updated and fed straight towards you, just like a stream in your social network.

Some tiles are also designed for use across different platforms. For all you Xbox lovers out there, you will be happy to hear that some Xbox games will be playable through the Windows phone 7 OS, you can even save your progress on your phone and then continue from where you left off back on your Xbox when you get home. If however you prefer something a bit more business focussed then I wouldn’t worry; as you would expect Microsoft can really come in to its own when syncing all your email and office programmes across your laptop or PC at home.

So obviously there has to be some sort of downside because as with anything there’s always room for improvement. The issue then with having tiles is that things can start to look cluttered very quickly, its one thing having all your information on one page, it’s another trying to focus on it when you have email alerts to one side and your favourite contacts latest status glaring at you on the other. Ironically as Microsoft’s search engine ‘Bing’ would say, ‘what has Information overload done to us?’
However that might just be me and your view may be very different. So whether you like tiles on Windows or that clean and sleek style seen in Apple or Android; one thing is for certain Microsoft are back.

Symbian^3 family has a couple of gorgeous new additions

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Symbian^ 3 is the latest operating system to be released by mobile giants Nokia. Designed for Smartphones Symbian^3 is a welcome addition to the somewhat ageing and outdated software that we had been used to seeing on some Nokia phones.

The Nokia C6-01 and Nokia C7-00 are two of four new phones announced by Nokia to be running the open source Symbian^3 platform in the last couple of weeks. Features of this software will include HDMI support, multiple personalised home screens, multi touch, multitasking and an enhancement in graphics.

The C6-01 and C7-00 have more than merited the software upgrade with their list of high end features crammed in to both phones. Being made from premium materials such as glass and stainless steel means they look the part too.

The C7-00 is the bigger of the two with a 3.5inch touchscreen and 8GB internal storage, but at 10.5mm thick it still feels right at home in your hand or snuggled in your pocket. Besides that, both phones are pretty much a like for like. Both benefit from the inclusion of an 8.0 megapixel camera , Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MicroSD compatibility and GPS with A-GPS support.

If you want to check out the mobile phones in greater detail then come and have a look at our coming soon page where we have an exciting range of great up and coming mobiles.

The next ‘Move’ in gaming technology

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Ok I’ll be the first to admit that when I put the words games console and exercise together it doesn’t really sound too appealing. That was of course until the introduction of the Nintendo Wii which miraculously changed everything. And now the PS3 Move is here to start from where the Wii left off.

A similar format; the PS3 Move includes a wand like controller which is used to monitor your actions and movements to get you involved in the game like never before. This time you can actually get 3D depth recognition, so when you move forward the object in the game moves forward. No more ‘cheating’ where you would flick your wrist and it comes out on the TV looking like a grand slam tennis serve, this time you actually need to make all the correct movements for your shots to come off with pin point accuracy.

At a glance the wand like controllers do look strangely odd, as the closest thing I can think to resemble them is more of a glow in the dark microphone than a games controller. This is attributed largely to the glowing orb that is present on the top of the wand. Used predominately for the motion sensor technology the orb is actually less of a distraction when gaming than you might think and even has adjustable colours for a more personal gaming experience.

Set to be released this Friday 17 September the Move is coming with a plethora of move enabled games. Some old games are even being patched and if that wasn’t enough you can even download some off of the Playstation network.

The main ethos of the PS3 Move is to build on a piece of successful gaming technology, tweak and improve it and then release it on a high graphics console. In a nutshell that is exactly what it does and the effect really is amazing. A completely immersive gaming experience is just around the corner and we think it’s got a very bright future ahead of it.
