The world’s first wind-up mobile phone!
Yes that’s right, it’s a mobile phone you wind up to charge and it is the first of its kind. The phone is being worked on as we speak and is going to make an experience mid 2010.
The wind-up mob has been named the ‘Ventus’ and was at prototype stage of development back in October 2009.
You might be wondering like I did what anybody would want with a wind-up mobile phone! Maybe it would be good for geeks who want a novelty gadget or perhaps it would be used in developing nations such as Africa who have little electrify.
The director of TCL Tony Davies said ‘these countries would be good markets, as there is mobile coverage but the power infrastructure is sometimes … lacking.’
How does it work? After cranking the Ventus for one minute, you’ll get up to four times that in talk time. It’s powered by a specially developed ultra-thin dynamo. There are specially designed solar panels that allow the phone to be charged when left in the sun.
You might all know that wind-up mobile phone charges are already available, but the Ventus allows it to be charged without having a separate charger.
Davies told the BBC: “With our system, the generator accesses the battery directly, and that really increases the efficiency of the system.” Clever stuff!
TLC know their wind-up stuff, they have produced a number of wind-up products including a wind-up radio.
Keep your eyes peeled you never know we could get them in stock…
