All BlackBerry App’s can now use ‘Push Notifications’

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

RIMRIM – Research in Motion, which is part of BlackBerry has now made push notifications available to all BlackBerry developers.  The main advantage of this is that for any future notifications, BlackBerry users can benefit from real time updates from their downloaded applications.  This was previously available for select key developers but RIM has now made it available to everyone.

It will be most useful for News, Social Networking and gaming apps which will now provide users with regular up to date notifications and alerts.  Push notifications will also improve your BlackBerry device’s battery life as the application will not have to constantly communicate with a server for new data and info.  Some applications that are already making use of this new service are CNN Money, 7digital, Facebook for BlackBerry and WeatherBug Elite.

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

It was announced on Wednesday the 24th of March that thousands of Twitterers all over the world put their fingers to rest and gathered offline on Thursday in the name of charity.

People from over 200 cities worldwide participated in the sound annual “Twestival,”! This year they are aiming to raise money for education.

Sarah Prevette, the lead organizer for Twestival Toronto said, “It’s a pretty viral phenomenon that happened,”

“Education is that one tool that we can give someone, and knowledge really does empower and that was something that really struck a chord with volunteers globally,” said Prevette. “It only costs $74 to send a primary school child to school for a year in these nations.”

This event is arranged by thousands of volunteers globally, with local businesses funding the parties, where social-media enthusiasts dance, come together and network.

The first-ever Twestival raised over $250,000 for clean water projects in Uganda, Ethiopia and India. To date they have raised a massive $354,536.

The Twestival’s website says, over 4,000 people purchased tickets so far, the final results are to come..
