Christmas has come early for Xbox live gamers who are set for a new dashboard update on December 6th.  One of the main new features will allow Xbox 360 users to stream a variety of content from third party sources.  Catch up on your favourite TV shows with BBC iplayer, 4oD and Demand 5.  Download the latest films with Love Film and Crackle.  With Youtube, VEVO and MUZU.TV also making the upgrade, Xbox are fast catching PS3 as a console to offer entertainment features beyond gaming.

The latest Xbox live update also offers improved functionality and data protection.  With the introduction of Cloud Storage to save your game progress and Live profile, you’re covered should your Xbox break unexpectedly.  Social integration is going to allow you to stand proud (or embarrassed) as your achievements are announced on Facebook.  A step ahead of PlayStation is the release of integrated voice navigation across the dashboard, in apps and Bing Search, which will bring a dynamic and fresh experience to home entertainment.

With so many exciting features released to Xbox Live on the 6th December, it’ll be hard to switch off your Xbox 360 this Christmas!

Call of Duty MW3: Biggest entertainment launch ever

The latest edition to the Call of Duty franchise; Modern Warfare ® 3, has shattered all previous records of release day sales, reporting  6.5 million units sold across the United Kingdom and North America within the first 24 hours of its release. An estimated 13,000 midnight launch parties held in retail stores worldwide assisted enthusiastic gamers to kick start their online multiplayer campaign before the rest of the world.

Modern Warfare 3 achieved a day-one sell through of over $400 million, gunning down the record previously held by predecessor Black Ops ($360 million). Interestingly, the sales from the entire Call of Duty franchise exceed theatrical box office sales of the iconic “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings” franchises.

From a personal level, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a PS3 copy from a midnight launch party at my local Tesco.  I’m a great fan of Survival mode on Special Ops with its increasing difficulty and variety of targets to eliminate. With a shameful kill ratio of just 0.5, it’ll be a long time before I can shake off my noob status!

Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich is the latest operating system to soon be released by Android. Google have said that this operating system will be a ‘one operating system everywhere’ version so that the operating system can run on both phones and tablets. This will be extremely useful for users of both devices.

Other exciting features of the new operating system include the updated App launcher, the multi-tasking panel and the new home screen widgets. For the tablet users of Android, the system will be able to act as a USB hub and allow for keyboards and mice to be connected to them. This is great for people on the go as it makes your tablet an even greater portable device but can still fit your needs with additional equipment. Ice Cream Sandwich will also include face detection, which is great for people who use their phones for taking photos.  You will also be able to enjoy integrated Google+, messenger, Google Talk and Google Cloud services.  What’s more, users of this operating system will be able to take panoramic pictures so they can capture amazing photos in one go.

These are just some of the new and exciting features that will be in Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), so keep your eye out for this and make the most of it.

Apple iPhone 4S goes on sale today!

Friday, October 14th, 2011

It’s the big day today as the iPhone 4S has gone on sale in the UK and six other countries. People have been waiting for this day for a long time and there have been around 1 million pre-orders of the phone. Around the world people have been queuing up outside Apple stores to buy their new handset. The eagerness of many people is shown by some people waiting for 80 hours just to be first in line to get the iPhone 4S in Australia and Japan. This may seem excessive to some, but the hype around the iPhone 4S really is huge and Apple are expecting to sell around 3 million of the new handset over this weekend.

Many people around the world have said that they will be buying the iPhone 4S as a tribute to Steve Jobs who sadly passed away a few days ago. The phone went on sale at 8am this morning and people had been queuing for hours before this. In some stores, Apple staff have applauded customers as they walked in to purchase their new phone which helped them to create a buzz. Many fans are excited by the new Siri feature, where you can ask the artificial intelligence system questions, such as ‘where is the nearest petrol station?’ and it will answer for you. This is definitely an amazing and very useful feature amongst many others such as the 8.0 megapixel camera which is great for snap-happy people.

Check out our great deals on the iPhone 4S here.
