RIM – Research in Motion, which is part of BlackBerry has now made push notifications available to all BlackBerry developers. The main advantage of this is that for any future notifications, BlackBerry users can benefit from real time updates from their downloaded applications. This was previously available for select key developers but RIM has now made it available to everyone.
It will be most useful for News, Social Networking and gaming apps which will now provide users with regular up to date notifications and alerts. Push notifications will also improve your BlackBerry device’s battery life as the application will not have to constantly communicate with a server for new data and info. Some applications that are already making use of this new service are CNN Money, 7digital, Facebook for BlackBerry and WeatherBug Elite.
